
Alize Cornet eased through to the second round of the GDF Suez Grand Prix with a win over Galina Voskoboeva.
Third seed Sybille Bammer also reached the second round after a 6-2 6-3 win over Klara Zakopalova, but there were shock defeats for seeds Sara Errani and Lucie Safarova at the hands of Timea Bacsinszky and Petra Martic respectively.
The home crowd were excited by an all-Hungarian tussle between the nation's top-ranked player Agnes Szavay and Katalin Marosi. As expected, Szavay proved too good for her compatriot, winning through 6-1 6-1.
Fifth seed Alisa Kleybanova beat Romania's Monica Niculescu 6-0 6-3 while other winners included Kateryna Bondarenko - joining her sister Alona in round two - Shahar Peer and Tathiana Garbin.
