Kateryna wins Bondarenko battle

Alona Bondarenko was knocked out of the ECM Prague Open at the first hurdle today by her unseeded sister Kateryna.

Alona was understandably favourite to progress but was upset by her younger sibling who beat her with relative ease, 6-1 6-3.

Sixth seed Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia was knocked out after being beaten 6-2 7-6 (7/5) by Swiss qualifier Timea Bacsinszky.

Czech number three seed Iveta Benesova had more success, however, beating local wild card Karolina Pliskova 6-7 (7/5) 6-1 6-3.

Home favourites Lucie Hradecka and Petra Kvitova, seventh and eighth seeds, enjoyed straight-sets victories over Ksenia Pervak and Anna Lapushchenkova respectively.

Britain's Katie O'Brien suffered a comprehensive 6-3 6-2 defeat by Monica Niculescu of Romania.
