Eighth seed Maximo Gonzalez was dumped out of the Catella Swedish Open in the first round today by Juan Monaco.
Gonzalez, the only seed in action in Bastad today, won the second set to level the match but was well beaten in the decider as Monaco came through 7-6 (7/4) 3-6 6-1.
Three qualifiers survived the first round, with Guillermo Canas, Potito Starace and Peter Luczak all winning today.
Canas defeated last year's Junior Wimbledon winner Grigor Dimitrov 6-3 7-6 (7/2), Starace saw off France's Julien Benneteau 7-6 (7/5) 6-3 and Australian Luczak brushed aside Alberto Martin 6-2 6-2.
Austria's Daniel Koellerer recovered from a poor first set to defeat Steve Darcis 1-6 6-3 6-4 while Kristof Vliegen and Bjorn Phau were the other winners today.
