Ajax made it two wins from two in the Eredivisie with Luis Suarez hitting a hat-trick in a 4-1 rout of 10-man RKC Waalwijk.
Although Gregory van der Wiel saw his 10th-minute strike rubbed out by Benjamin De Ceulaer after 31 minutes, the dismissal of Wouter Gudde turned the match.
Gudde was given his marching orders after 70 minutes for a challenge on Suarez, who then stepped up to convert from the penalty spot and restore Ajax's lead.
The Uruguayan striker added two more after 82 and 90 minutes to seal the win.
FC Groningen are still searching for their first win of the campaign as they could only manage a 1-1 draw at Roda JC.
Anouar Hadouir fired Roda in front after 19 minutes only for Goran Lovre to level matters on the half-hour mark.
Groningen's hopes of claiming three points were dashed though when Danny Holla was sent off after 51 minutes.
