Grasshoppers failed in their attempts to climb off the foot of the Super League as they crashed to a 3-1 defeat to St Gallen.
Three goals in the first 30 minutes from Moreno Merenda (10), Philipp Muntwiler (27) and Moreno Costanzo (29) gave the visitors a healthy cushion before Grasshoppers saw Senad Lulic sent off shortly before the interval.
Alain Schultz got the hosts on the scoresheet after 68 minutes but the fightback ended there allowing St Gallen to move two points behind leaders Young Boys.
FC Sion lie third in the table but could only manage a 1-1 draw at home to Aarau.
A last-minute goal from substitute Artur Ionita snatched a point for Aarau, cancelling out Enes Fermino's 55th-minute strike.
