White Sox down NY Yankees

The Chicago White Sox recorded their second successive victory over the New York Yankees, sending the AL East leaders to a 10-5 defeat.

After landing star right-hander Jake Peavy in a trade with the San Diego Padres, Carlos Quentin homered and had a go-ahead RBI double and Chris Getz delivered a two-run, bases-loaded single.

On a quiet non-waiver trade deadline day, Tampa Bay Rays saw off Kansas City 8-2 to take their record against the Royals to 7-0.

Clutch hits by slumping sluggers Carlos Pena and Pat Burrell to backed a strong performance by David Price at Tropicana Field.

Price went seven innings and allowed one run, five hits, two walks and struck out three. Pena hit a three-run home run in the first inning while Burrell went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.

Kevin Youkilis put Boston ahead with a two-run homer in the seventh inning as the Red Sox pipped Baltimore Orioles 6-5.

Slugger David Ortiz hit his second home run in as many games, while Jacoby Ellsbury also connected.

Youkilis' homer put Boston ahead, going long after Ellsbury singled. Ellsbury and Youkilis both had three hits.

Jamey Carroll's RBI single in the 13th inning gave Cleveland a 6-5 win over the Detroit Tigers on the day the victors traded catcher Victor Martinez shortly before the non-waiver deadline.

Howie Kendrick's RBI single started Los Angeles' six-run 11th inning and the Angels recorded their major league-leading 34th comeback victory of the season, 11-5 over the Minnesota Twins.

The Angels, who have come from behind in 13 of their past 18 victories, had six hits and two walks against three Minnesota relievers before making an out in the 11th inning.

Texas defeated the Seattle Mariners 5-4 in a game delayed for two hours and 18 minutes by rain at Rangers Ballpark.

Vicente Padilla made a successful return after swine flu, allowing a two-run homer in the first inning but settling down thereafter.

Ryan Sweeney had three RBIs and Rajai Davis reached base four times to lead the Oakland Athletics to an 8-5 win over the Toronto Blue Jays in their series opener.
