Hoffenheim 3-0 Bochum

Chinedu Obasi's solo effort was the highlight of a fine Hoffenheim performance as they overpowered Bochum in the Bundesliga.

The Nigeria forward strode through the visiting defence to claim Hoffenheim's second just short of the hour mark after Demba Ba had given them a first-half lead.

Marvin Compper rounded off the scoring nine minutes from time to give the hosts their second league win of the season.

Ba was into the action early, picking out Carlos Eduardo, but the Brazilian failed to make the most of a good chance from six yards.

With the best chances falling to the hosts, they took the lead after 16 minutes when Ba converted a similar opportunity.

Obasi showed his intent with a 20-yard shot from the left that, in truth, was over-ambitious and sailed over the bar.

Bochum's only meaningful chance of the game came on the stroke of half-time when Marc Pfertzel's fine effort from 22 yards rebounded off the post to safety.

That was perhaps the warning Hoffenheim needed and they came out after the break with all guns blazing.

Carlos Eduardo fired over the bar from close range before Obasi struck with 58 minutes gone.

He raced through the Bochum backline, taking on four defenders before planting a right-foot shot from 10 yards past Philipp Heerwagen.

Obasi was on fire now and tried his luck again after 76 minutes from the edge of the area but this time Heerwagen pushed the ball out for a corner.

A deserved third came when Sejad Salihovic on the left found Compper, who converted from close range.
