Udinese 4-2 Catania

Antonio Di Natale grabbed a hat-trick against Catania as Udinese registered their first win of the season.

The hosts trailed 2-1 at half-time but then Italy forward Di Natale took centre stage, dragging them level 10 minutes after the restart before two more goals - the first of which came from the penalty spot - settled an entertaining encounter.

The result means Catania are still searching for their first point but their showing in the opening half will offer some encouragement.

The visitors took the game to Udinese from the off with Giuseppe Mascara lashing in a 30-yard drive which fizzed just wide of Samir Handanovic's goal.

Catania took the lead from their next attack, though, Takayuki Morimoto's blistering shot from the edge of the area hitting Maurizio Domizzi and ricocheting into the bottom right-hand corner.

Udinese finally emerged as an attacking force after 15 minutes, Alexis Sanchez delivering a cross from the right which Antonio Floro Flores ought to have converted rather than putting his close-range effort wide.

The hosts were starting to monopolise possession although they still lacked quality in the final third, a point demonstrated by a great run and cross from full-back Felipe which was not attacked by any of the Udinese forwards.

The home side did click just before the half-hour mark, however. Floro Flores found space 20 yards out and powered in a crisp shot which found the bottom corner.

Catania came again and retook the lead within four minutes.

Felipe fouled Mascara inside the area and Mascara himself stepped up to coolly convert from the spot.

Catania coach Gianluca Atzori urged his side to show greater levels of self-belief heading into this game but the fragility which characterised their opening two defeats resurfaced once more after half-time.

They could have conceded two minutes after the restart, Di Natale rising highest to get on the end of a Gaetano D'Agostino free-kick but visiting keeper Mariano Andujar made a fine block.

Udinese came even closer after 49 minutes with Andujar pulling off another good save to divert Simone Pepe's long-range shot on to the bar.

The equaliser was coming and it duly arrived after 55 minutes with Di Natale again getting on the end of a D'Agostino cross but this time he glanced it expertly past a helpless Andujar.

Catania wilted and it came as no surprise when Udinese added a third from the spot.

The influential Floro Flores was felled by Alessandro Potenza and Di Natale made no mistake.

Di Natale completed his treble with 11 minutes to go, finishing off a swift counter-attack led by Francesco Lodi.

Udinese almost netted a fifth late on with Pepe coming close once more with a shot from close range.
