Tomas Danilevicius' late goal ensured Livorno climbed out of the relegation zone with a victory at strugglers Catania.
The Lithuanian forward struck two minutes from time to hand the Tuscan outfit their fourth win of the season and ruin Sinisa Mihajlovic's coaching debut at Catania.
The hosts were unlucky not to claim a point after Jorge Alvarez struck the post deep in stoppage time.
Catania also finished the game with 10 men after Giuseppe Mascara was sent off five minutes before the end for a double booking.
The result has lifted Livorno one place and two points above the drop zone after 16 games played, while it has sunk Catania to the foot of the standings.
Catania went into the game looking to turn their fortunes around under new coach Mihajlovic.
Mihajlovic replaced Gianluca Atzori, who was sacked following last weekend's 3-2 loss at Siena which marked the club's eighth defeat of the season.
Looking for their second win of the campaign, the hosts enjoyed the better start.
In the 12th minute, Jorge Martinez's 12-yard strike was deflected by Livorno defender Dario Knezevic for a corner with Livorno goalkeeper Alfonso de Lucia already beaten.
Shortly after, Cristian Llama should have put the hosts in front but fired high and wide from the edge of the area after a good assist from Mascara.
Catania were unlucky not to break the deadlock in the 24th minute with Llama's cross finding Mascara inside the area, but his strike was met by a great save from De Lucia.
On the half-hour mark, Catania goalkeeper Mariano Andujar did well to come off his line and anticipate an unmarked Danilevicius, who was ready to fire from Antonio Candreva's cross.
Livorno almost went in front before the break, but Martin Bergvold's bullet strike from distance stunned Andujar but went just wide of the far post.
Livorno showed more determination after the re-start and could have gone in front on the hour mark.
Leonardo Miglianico just failed to get behind Candreva's cross towards the far post as another chance went by.
At the other end, Mascara's curled free-kick towards the near post forced De Lucia to fully stretch to clear.
With 15 minutes remaining, Christian Terlizzi's header from Mascara's free-kick went wide.
Just when Catania looked more deadly, Livorno struck.
Andujar was unable to keep out Danilevicius's left-footed strike from the edge of the area towards the far post.
Mascara's sending-off following a clash with Livorno substitute Davide Marchini did not hinder the hosts, who continued to press forward.
And they were almost rewarded with one minute left to play. Alvarez got behind Giavinto Plasmati's cross and his right-footed strike from inside the area struck the near post.
Livorno held on for the victory while defeat leaves Catania six points from safety.
