Blackhawks sink San Jose Sharks


The Western Conference leading San Jose Sharks suffered a 4-3 defeat to the Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL.

Troy Brouwer scored his second goal of the game in overtime to give the Blackhawks victory.

Joe Pavelski netted a brace for the Sharks, who came from 3-0 down to force overtime.

The Atlanta Thrashers scored three times in the third period to come from 3-1 down to claim a 4-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Jim Slater scored twice for the Thrashers, while Evander Kane chipped in with two assists.

Eric Staal and Matt Cullen were on target in the first period as the Carolina Hurricanes recorded a 4-1 victory over the New York Islanders.

Stephane Yelle and Jussi Jokinen also netted for the Hurricanes, while New York's Matt Moulson briefly reduced the deficit to 3-1.

The Ottawa Senators recovered from conceding in the second minute of the game to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1.

Goals from Mike Fisher, Chris Kelly, Jason Spezza and Nick Foligno turned the contest around after Evgeni Malkin gave the Penguins the early advantage.

The Phoenix Coyotes let slip a 2-0 lead before Robert Lang and Lauri Korpikoski scored in the shootout to give them a 3-2 success over the Calgary Flames.

Anze Kopitar scored a brace to give the Los Angeles Kings a 4-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Martin Havlat netted late in the third period as the Minnesota Wild claimed a 1-0 win over the Colorado Avalanche.

Alex Steen scored the winner in the third period to help the St Louis Blues to a 2-1 success over the Edmonton Oilers.
