Bochum earned a vital victory in their fight against relegation as they held on for victory at Borussia Moenchengladbach.
Stanislav Sestak gave Bochum the lead in the 12th minute and Zlatko Dedic doubled their advantage nine minutes before the break.
Fabian Backer pulled a goal back for the home side in the 80th minute, but they could not find equaliser.
The win was Bochum's second in a row following a run of one win in nine and lifted them three points above the bottom three.
Gladbach failed to build on the strong form they showed before the winter break and remained a point ahead of Bochum.
The visitors went in front following a counter-attack in 12th minute. Joel Epalle passed the ball into the path of Christoph Dabrowski, who chipped it over to the right side where Sestak beat keeper Logan Bailly from 12 yards
Gladbach were offering little going forward and Bochum made it 2-0 nine minutes before the break.
Milos Maric's corner came to Marcel Maltriz, who headed the ball towards the left post and Dedic volleyed home from seven yards.
The hosts were the better side in the second half, Juan Arango's volley going over the bar on the hour mark and Bochum keeper Philipp Heerwagen producing a superb save to keep out Michael Bradley's header in the 73rd minute.
Gladbach finally pulled a goal back with 10 minutes to play following good interplay between 18-year-old Patrick Hermann and 19-year-old Backer, who were both making their Bundesliga debuts.
Hermann's cross from the edge of the area found his team-mate, who volleyed home from eight yards.
The hosts poured forward in search of a second, but it was not forthcoming as Bochum held on.
