David Nalbandian has withdrawn from the Australian Open with an abdominal tear, tournament officials have confirmed.
The former Wimbledon finalist, who has plummeted to number 63 in the world following a string of injuries, sustained the latest setback while warming up for the Heineken Open in Auckland.
And Nalbandian, 28, has since notified Australian Open officials that he is unfit to compete in the opening Grand Slam of the year.
The former world number three was making a comeback from a hip operation that has sidelined him since last May.
