Spaniard through to Hobart semis


Top seed Anabel Medina Garrigues was taken to three sets before booking her place in the semi-finals of the Hobart International.

Top seed Anabel Medina Garrigues was taken to three sets before booking her place in the semi-finals of the Hobart International today.

Spaniard Medina Garrigues dropped the second set but battled back to secure a 6-1 5-7 6-1 win over Argentina's Gisela Dulko.

She will now meet fourth seed Alona Bondarenko in the last four. The Ukrainian beat China's Zheng Jie 7-5 7-5.

Unseeded Italian Sara Errani overcame Belgian qualifier Kirsten Flipkens 6-3 6-4.

Second seed Shahar Peer also went through after surviving a tough three-set battle against Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro.

The Israeli needed almost three hours to win 4-6 7-6 (7/4) 7-5 to set up a meeting with Errani.
