Werder Bremen romped to a third successive win as the pressure mounted on new Hannover boss Mirko Slomka.
Goals from Peter Niemeyer, Naldo, Aaron Hunt and Claudio Pizarro, plus an own goal by Leon Andreasen, heaped misery on relegation-threatened Hannover as they slumped to a fourth defeat in a row since Slomka took over.
Bremen threatened in the 10th minute when Mesut Ozil forced Florian Fromlowitz into a save, and a minute later they swept into the lead.
From a throw-in, Clemens Fritz found Niemeyer inside the the penalty area and his right-footed shot found the far left corner of Fromlowitz's goal.
It was 2-0 after 19 minutes, with Naldo meeting a right-wing corner from Ozil and heading into the top left corner.
Hannover threatened for the first time when Konstantin Rausch unleashed a shot from 25 yards which Tim Wiese got his body behind to save.
But Bremen stretched their lead after 26 minutes as Ozil fired in a free-kick from the right and Per Mertesacker headed the ball into the path of Petri Pasanen, barely two yards from goal. His shot looked to be going wide but deflected in off the unlucky Andreasen, with the ball finding the top right corner.
Hannover's first-half misery was complete in the 45th minute when Torsten Frings played in a cross from a free-kick on the left and Hunt headed past Fromlowitz.
Pizarro missed an excellent chance to make it 5-0 after 10 minutes of the second half, and Hannover had cause for momentary celebration in the 58th minute when Sergio Pinto's cross was driven into the net by Christian Schulz.
However, the four-goal margin was restored in the 68th minute when Marko Marin's corner from the right found Pizarro who drilled the ball into the bottom left corner.
Bremen, hoping for a place in Europe next season, could have had six goals, but Arouna Kone's powerful strike was parried away by Fromlowitz in the closing stages.
