Saudi League champions Al Ittihad kicked off their title defence with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Al Fateh.
Al Ittihad, who will face Uzbek side Pakhtakor in the Asian Champions League quarter-finals next month, took an early lead after 13 minutes through defender Saleh Al Saqri.
Al Ittihad doubled their advantage two minutes before the break when skipper Mohamed Noor found the back of the net, before Al Fateh reduced the arrears in the 47th minute when Ahmed Abu Obaid converted from the spot.
It was not enough, however, as Al Ittihad held out to claim three points.
Elsewhere, fellow Jeddah giants Al Ahli grabbed a 1-0 win over Al Raed thanks to a last-minute strike from Ahmed Darwish.
