Barcelona to table Vidic bid

Barcelona are set to step up their interest in Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic and make an official bid soon.

The Daily Mirror reports that Barca have cooled off talks with Shakhtar Donetsk over Dmytro Chygrynskiy as the clubs could not agree a fee, and La Blaugrana now have Vidic in their sights.

The 27-year-old, who is currently injured and missed Man United's 1-0 win over Birmingham, has re-emerged as a priority for Pep Guardiola after being linked with the Catalans in the previous campaign.

Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson is unlikely to sanction the transfer for his prized centre-back, as the Serb has formed a formidable partnership in the centre of Man United's back four.

Guardiola is looking to bolster his defence after the departure of Martin Caceres to Juventus on a season-long loan. The former midfielder has already brought in Maxwell from Inter this summer.

Vidic was named as one of the candidates for the PFA Player of the Year award in the previous campaign, and has won the Premier League three times in a row with the Red Devils.
