Bayern Munich were held to their second successive 1-1 draw as Werder Bremen picked up their first point of the season.
Bremen thrashed Bayern 5-2 at the Allianz Arena last term and appeared to be heading for another victory when Mesut Ozil put them ahead in the 39th minute.
But Bayern responded well in the second half, with Ivica Olic a real threat, before Mario Gomez scored his first goal since arriving from Stuttgart in the 72nd minute.
Franck Ribery came on for his first appearance of the season during the last half-an-hour, but could not inspire Bayern to a first win of the campaign.
Miroslav Klose was named in the Bayern starting XI for the first time this season in what is regarded as coach Louis Van Gaal's first-choice attack with Mario Gomez.
But the Germany international struggled to make an impact on the game and it was no surprise that he was removed at the break with Olic taking his place.
By that time, the home side were already behind to a goal from Ozil.
Ten minutes after seeing his free-kick headed onto a post by Petri Pasanen, the Bremen playmaker took the ball into the centre and beat Michael Rensing with a low shot into the bottom corner.
Bayern looked brighter with former Hamburg striker Olic on the field and he tested his Bremen keeper Tim Wiese for the first time on the hour mark.
Wiese made a fine save to deny the new Bayern striker before making another excellent stop after Ribery, with his first contribution, tore the Bremen defence apart and created another chance for Olic to equalise.
Bayern increased the pressure and they were rewarded in the 72nd minute when Gomez opened his account for the club.
The Germany striker stuck out a leg to just beat Wiese to Phillip Lahm's cross and get enough on the ball to divert it in.
Olic had a chance to win it when he stole possession from Petri Pasanen, but Wiese denied him for the third and last time as the visitors held on.
