Bordeaux 4-1 Lens

Bordeaux began the defence of their Ligue 1 title in style with an emphatic home win over Lens.

Yoann Gourcuff scored twice and Marouane Chamakh - a transfer target of Premier League sides Arsenal and Sunderland - also got on the scoresheet to seal the win in the dying moments.

The home side took the lead on 11 minutes after dominating the early stages through a brilliant individual effort from Wendell.

He collected the ball from Fernando Cavenaghi on the right-hand edge of the area and fired a superb left-footed shot into the opposite top corner.

Chamakh then had a penalty appeal turned down after 20 minutes when he looked to have been fouled in the area by Alaeddine Yahia.

But Lens equalised against the run of play six minutes before the interval when Yohan Demont's cross was met with a diving header by Issam Jemaa at the near post.

Bordeaux regrouped at the interval and quickly regained their lead when Gourcuff's shot from the edge of the area took a deflection on its way past Vedran Runje in the Lens goal.

The visitors had a second equaliser ruled out on 56 minutes when Abdoulrazak Boukari was adjudged to have fouled Henrique in the air and Yoan Gouffran went close at the other end with a flashing left-foot volley.

It was not until the 90th minute that Bordeaux made sure of the points however, Chamakh applying the finish after more good work from Gourcuff down the right.

And Gourcuff deservedly topped off a fine performance with his second in injury time, heading home from close range to make it 4-1.
