Heracles Almelo 0-1 Feyenoord

Veteran striker Jon Dahl Tomasson's second-half strike earned Feyenoord their second win of the Eredivisie season at Heracles Almelo.

The Dane converted Andwele Slory's right-wing cross at the back post in the 70th minute to condemn the home side to their first loss of the campaign.

The goal made up for a glaring earlier miss by the 32-year-old when he shot wide with the net gaping and continued the impressive start to coach Mario Been's reign.

Tomasson had his first chance in the 15th minute when he forced keeper Martin Pieckenhagen into a smart save with a low right-footed shot.

At the other end Rob van Dijk was called on to deny Willy Overtoom from Juha Hakola's right-wing cross.

Both keepers continued to deal comfortably with everything that came their way, Pieckenhagen getting down to stop Slory's shot from going in the bottom left corner and, after the break, Van Dijk easily saving Hakola's free-kick.

Tomasson should have scored in the 62nd minute, though, when Slory's cross from the right presented him with an open goal, but the former AC Milan striker sent his effort wide of the right post.

The pair combined again eight minutes later and this time Tomasson made no mistake with the finish.

Heracles enjoyed some decent spells of possession in the final 10 minutes but, in truth, they never looked like finding a way back into the encounter.
