Mads Junker's goal just before the hour mark was enough to see off NEC Nijmegen and provide Roda JC with their first win of the new Eredivisie season.
Roda drew their opening two fixtures and a three-point haul here represents a good start to the season for Harm van Veldhoven's men.
NEC have now accumulated three points from three games and failure to get anything from their trip to Kerkrade translated itself into frustration with Niels Wellenberg's last-minute dismissal capping a miserable day for the visitors.
NEC were the more enterprising side early on and only a brave block from home defender Eric Addo prevented Arek Radomski from drilling home after 12 minutes.
The visitors threatened again after 28 minutes with Bjorn Vleminckx curling a left-footed shot over the bar from 25 yards.
Roda offered little in the opening period with their best chance falling the way of Marcel de Jong but his free-kick flew well wide of the target.
The hosts were more deadly 14 minutes after the restart. Anouar Hadouir played in Junker and the striker made no mistake with a crisp finish past Gabor Babos from 15 yards.
De Jong came close again with 18 minutes to go, curling another effort wide.
NEC never really threatened an equaliser and their chances all but ended when Wellenberg received his second yellow card of the afternoon after bringing down Edwin Linssen.
