NAC Breda and Heracles Almelo played out a dire goaless draw at the Rat Verlegh Stadion.
The match took place in an empty stadium as NAC had been ordered to play behind closed doors and the lack of atmosphere had an effect as the players never really got going.
Heracles had recorded an impressive victory against Eredivisie champions AZ Alkmaar in the season opener last week, while NAC also won, but neither goalkeeper was really troubled today.
NAC could have taken the lead in the eighth minute but Heracles goalkeeper Martin Pieckenhagen managed to get a fingertip to the ball to keep out Tyrone Loran's fierce drive from the edge of the area.
The hosts had another good opportunity 10 minutes later when Kees Kwakman headed Robbert Schilder's corner narrowly past the far post.
Heracles' only decent chance of the first half came in the 25th minute when Mark Looms raced down the left flank before crossing the ball into Bas Dost who put his header inches past the right hand post
Dost did better six minutes after the break only to be denied by a good save from NAC goalkeeper Jelle Ten Rouwelaar.
The hosts had a half chance on the hour mark as they won a free-kick in a dangerous position but, although Anthony Lurling struck it sweetly, he sent it straight into the Heracles wall.
NAC could have snatched the three points right at the death as Lurling raced down the left flank before cutting inside and driving the ball towards goal but Pieckenhagen pulled off a great stop.
