NAC Breda 2-0 Heerenveen

NAC Breda bounced back from a Europa League hammering on Thursday to claim their third win in five Eredivisie games against Heerenveen.

Robert Maaskant's side were thrashed 6-1 by Villarreal in the second leg of their play-off clash, but made some amends today as second-half goals from Kees Kwakman and Matthew Amoah helped them continue their good start to the season.

It was a bad end to a positive week for Heerenveen, who did take their place in the Europa League group phase with an away-goals victory over PAOK Salonika.

The visitors were the first to go close in the 19th minute when Paulo Henrique drew a smart save from NAC goalkeeper Jelle Ten Rouwelaar.

Seven minutes later the hosts forged their first chance but Robert Schilder's shot drifted wide, and Heerenveen created an opening when Bonaventure Kalou and Christian Grindheim played a clever one-two and the Ivorian Kalou rifled in a shot, but it sailed over the crossbar as the first half ended goalless.

NAC sailed close to the wind five minutes into the second half when a weak back-pass by Tyrone Loran was intercepted by Henrique. His shot was parried by Ten Rouwelaar and the clearance was completed by Rob Penders.

The scare spurred the hosts on and after Heerenveen made a hash of clearing a cross into the box a minute later, Kwakman capitalised to shoot low into the goal.

Ten Rouwelaar was then called on to deny Goran Popov's header for Heerenveen following Grindheim's 56th-minute corner, and two minutes later NAC doubled their lead.

A pass from the centre of midfield released Kwakman and he crossed for Ghana striker Amoah, who volleyed into the roof of the net.
