FC Groningen 0-2 PSV Eindhoven

Danny Koevermans scored twice in 14 second-half minutes to give PSV Eindhoven victory at FC Groningen.

After an evenly-contested opening period, Koevermans proved the difference between the two sides to leave Groningen firmly in the relegation places.

The home side created the first opportunity after eight minutes when Goran Lovre beat Andre Ooijer on the left wing.

Lovre whipped in a teasing cross which flew across the penalty area but no Groningen forwards were in the right position to take advantage.

It took until the 19th minute for Groningen to threaten again, Mike Zonneveld curling a free-kick past the post.

PSV finally created a noteworthy chance of their own with 27 minutes gone, but Otman Bakkal's header was superbly saved by Luciano da Silva as the first half ended scoreless.

The visitors made the better start to the second half and Luciano was pressed into action again on 51 minutes, this time keeping out a Koevermans header.

But there was nothing he could do 15 minutes later when the same player finally broke the deadlock.

Koevermans lost his marker in the area and powered a superb header into the top right corner from 12 yards to give PSV the lead.

And he made sure of all three points 10 minutes from time with Balazs Dzsudzsak again providing an assist.

His cross from the left found Koevermans in the area and he fired a right-foot shot beyond Luciano from 10 yards.
