Fernando Verdasco and Caroline Wozniacki both emerged triumphant in the rain-affected Pilot Pen tournament in New Haven.
Second seed Verdasco saw off American opponent Sam Querrey 6-4 7-6 (8/6) in a final lasting one hour 35 minutes.
The Spaniard's serve, in particular his second serve, underpinned his success. He won 68% of points on his second serve in contrast to Querrey's 43%.
The final was both players' second match of the day after their semi-finals were postponed yesterday because of heavy rain.
Verdasco earlier beat Igor Andreev 7-6 (7/4) 7-6 (7/5) and Querrey won his last-four clash with Jose Acasuso 6-3 6-4.
Both of the semis were played indoors because of the adverse weather, but the final could be played outside after the rain eased.
The final of the women's tournament was also staged outdoors, Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki retaining her title with a 6-2 6-4 success over Elena Vesnina of Russia.
Second seed Wozniacki carved out 11 break points, converting four - two in each set - to claim victory in one hour 16 minutes.
Vesnina got 72% of her first serves in, compared to Wozniacki's 66%, but the Russian only managed to win 55% of points on her first serve.
