Both sides missed gilt-edged chances as Vitesse Arnhem and Feyenoord had to settle for a goalless draw.
Vitesse will count themselves unlucky after seeing one Lasse Nilsson effort hit the post and another cleared off the line.
But Leroy Fer should have won it at the death for Feyenoord only to place a free header over the bar.
Santi Kolk was at the heart of all of Vitesse's most promising play and he created a chance for Nilsson after just four minutes.
His through-ball sent the Swede clear and, even though he chipped the ball over keeper Rob van Dijk, Ron Vlaar got back to clear off the line.
Kolk himself saw a powerful shot parried away by Van Dijk two minutes later.
The Rotterdammers first chance arrived just before the half-hour mark as veteran frontman Roy Makaay looked to add the finish to a well-worked counter-attack but could not beat Piet Velthuizen with a low shot.
That, though, was a rare sight of goal for the visitors in the first half.
At the other end Kolk fired just over the bar before, on the stroke of half-time, Nilsson was given time to turn in the six-year box only for his shot to hit a post with the goal gaping.
Vitesse continued to look dangerous after the break as the lively Kolk forced Van Dijk to push his stinging shot behind and then, from the resulting corner, flicked the ball on for Jeroen Drost, who headed an easy chance over the bar.
That missed could have proved costly as Feyenoord came on strong late in the game.
Velthuizen had to save with his feet from Vlaar's venomous free-kick and, in the 88th minute, Fer met Luigi Bruins' ball in at the back post.
The teenager, though, in keeping with the rest of the game, put his free header over the bar.
