Hertha Berlin 0-4 Freiburg

Hertha Berlin's miserable start to the season continued in an embarrassing home reverse to Freiburg.

Freiburg continued their rapid adaptation to life in the Bundesliga as they took complete control of the game inside the opening 15 minutes with goals from Ivica Banovic and Cedric Makiadi.

Mohamadou Idrissou added a second before half-time and Banovic's second, midway through the second half, put the cherry on the top of a convincing victory.

Freiburg were ahead after only six minutes as Idrissou crossed from the left for Banovic to rifle in a powerful shot that left Hertha goalkeeper Sascha Burchert rooted to the spot.

Banovic then turned provider as he hit a long ball from the right into the path of Makiadi, who struck the ball into the top right-hand corner out of Burchert's reach.

Hertha heads dropped and they produced little to suggest they could get back into the game.

Instead, Freiburg effectively killed it off three minutes before the break as Hertha's Nemanja Pejcinovic failed to put enough power on his header back to Burchert and Idrissou stole in to finish.

Freiburg looked happy to sit on their lead in the second half, with Hertha failing to muster anything going forward despite making a double substitution at the break, bringing on Cesar and Lukasz Piszczek.

Freiburg were the only team to create anything, ramming home their advantage as Idrissou's long-ball found Banovic and he slipped the ball past Burchert.

Hertha are rooted to the foot of the table with three points from six games, while Freiburg are up to 11th.
