Former world champion Kristan Bromley , who won gold last year in Altenberg Germany, had an encouraging start to his Winter Olympics campaign when he took the bronze medal in Thursday’s opening round of the World Cup series in Park City, Utah.
The 37 year-old produced an excellent second run to lift himself from fifth to third, finishing just 0.1sec behind second-placed Sandro Stielicke, of Germany, with victory going to Latvia’s Martins Dukurs.
Dukurs' combined two-run time on the 2002 Olympic track of 1 minute, 39.75 seconds was about a half-second better than Germany's Sandro Stielicke.
Zach Lund of the United States was fifth, about four-fifths of a second back of Dukurs.
Britain’s other two sliders, Andy Wood and Adam Pengilly, finished 23rd and 24th respectively after the first run, so failed to qualify for a second run.
