Almeria 1-1 Deportivo La Coruna

Deportivo La Coruna came from a goal down to rescue a point at Almeria in La Liga on Sunday.

The Galicians have enjoyed a fine start to the campaign and had picked up eight league wins prior to this match.

But they were unable to take anything from last weekend's game at home to league leaders Barcelona, despite a brave resistance.

Miguel Angel Lotina's side conceded two late goals in that match and eventually went down 3-1 to the Catalans.

They also went behind in this match against an Almeria side struggling for form in recent weeks.

The Andalusians had lost their previous three matches and began the day just two points above the relegation zone.

But following a lively first half in which both sides missed good chances, Hugo Sanchez's men went in front just short of the hour mark, through Kalu Uche.

They were unable to hold onto their lead, though, and were forced to settle for a point following Pablo Alvarez's leveller 16 minutes from time.

Both sides had glorious chances to snatch all three points in the closing stages, but a point was probably a fair result in the end.

Deportivo began the day in fifth place and were hoping to consolidate their European aspirations with another positive result in this match.

But Almeria were desperate for points following a worrying dip in results of late.

Following a tense opening, Deportivo almost took the lead after 21 minutes when Mista headed against the bar and Juan Rodriguez failed to divert the rebound into the net from close range.

At the other end, Almeria came close through Pablo Piatti, but the Argentinian forward saw his header kept out by a brilliant save from Daniel Aranzubia.

Uche then turned and shot wide from close range as the home side threatened again, but this was an end-to-end affair and Diego Alves produced a fine save to deny Antonio Tomas an opener for Deportivo.

Aranzubia did well to save from Fernando Soriano at the other end and the first half - unbelievably - finished goalless.

But Uche finally broke the deadlock after 58 minutes. The Nigerian striker got on the end of Michel's excellent cross and powered an unstoppable header past Aranzubia.

But Depor hit back 16 minutes later when Alvarez finished off a flowing team move.

The striker, who had earlier replaced Mista, was on hand to fire home from close range following Juan Carlos Valeron's headed pass after Ivan Perez and Manuel Pablo had combined brilliantly to drive the visitors forward.

Uche then missed two great chances to restore Almeria's lead, while there was still time for Deportivo to squander a couple of fantastic opportunities of their own, with Alvarez and Perez unable to hit the target from good positions.
