Juan Albin scored twice to earn Getafe their third La Liga win in four games at home to Tenerife.
The Uruguayan netted either side of half-time to put the hosts in complete control before Juanlu gave Tenerife hope late on.
The visitors, though, never looked likely to get back on level terms, although things might have panned out differently had Nino's header gone in rather than hit the post when the game was still goalless.
But Getafe took advantage of that stroke of luck - opening the scoring just five minutes later - to leave their opponents still looking for their first away win of the campaign.
Indeed, Tenerife have now taken just one point from a possible 21 on the road and that form threatens to undermine their survival hopes, today's loss leaving them just two points above the drop zone.
The visitors started like they were in the mood to end their woeful away run.
Julian Omar fired over in the 10th minute from Daniel Kome's cross.
And Alejandro Alfaro brought a comfortable save out of Getafe keeper Jordi Codina with a long-range free-kick soon after.
At the other end Manu del Moral shot wide from Pedro Leon's ball in, before the visitors came within a whisker of breaking the deadlock in the 33rd minute.
Ezequiel Luna's cross was met by Nino in the middle of the area but his header thumped against the upright.
Getafe grew stronger as the half wore on and Daniel Parejo shot over before having another effort from the right channel tipped over by Sergio Aragoneses.
The visiting keeper could do nothing seven minutes before the break, though, as Albin crashed a volley into the roof of the net from the centre of the area to give Getafe the lead.
The hosts started the second half as they had finished the first and Aragoneses had to be alert to prevent his side falling further behind.
First he tipped Leon's shot round the post and then caught Mario Alvarez's header from the resulting corner.
Tenerife threatened briefly through Ricardo, whose free-kick was safely caught by home keeper Jordi Codina, but found themselves two behind in the 66th minute.
Albin was again on target as he shot low into the net from Parejo's ball in from the left.
Tenerife halved the deficit in the 81st minute, Juanlu firing high into the net from the right side of the area after Codina had parried Nino's cross.
But they did not come close to getting another as Getafe, who conceded a late winner to lose to Villarreal last weekend, this time stayed solid to claim their seventh success of the campaign.
