The defending U-19 champions, India, failed to even pull off a face-saving victory in the 5th place playoff against South Africa.
India, who got beaten by the arch-rivals Pakistan at the quarter-final stage of the ICC Under-19 World Cup, lost to South Africa by six wickets in Lincoln on Wednesday.
India opted to bat upon winning the toss but to their utter shock the Proteas seamers simply wrecked the top order, leaving India reeling at 14 for 5 at one stage.
However, a 112-run stand for the sixth wicket between Zahid Ali (98) and Harpreet Singh (56) helped India post a respectable total of 235.
Zahid, who made his U-19 ODI debut on Wednesday, although missed his century by two runs but impressed everyone with his superb knock.
Graham Hume and Sammy Mofokeng took three wickets apiece for South Africa.
Thereafter, half-centuries from Dominic Hendricks (63), David White (77) and Colin Ackermann (52 not out) helped South Africa chase down the target comfortably in 48.4 overs.
Hendricks and White shared a 112-run second wicket partnership, while Ackermann took South Africa home.
