Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is back in the Australian Open semi-finals after he ended Novak Djokovic's hopes of a title repeat.
The pair met in a rematch of their 2008 Melbourne final on Wednesday and it was Tsonga who gained revenge by recording a 7-6 (10/8) 6-7 (5/7) 1-6 6-3 6-1 win. Djokovic's effort was undermined by a stomach ailment which forced him to leave the court at one stage. The Serb lost the opening set after holding two set points - the first after opening a 5-2 lead and the second in the tie-break - but hit back in the second. Again Tsonga fought back from a break of serve behind to force a breaker, but this time Djokovic took it 7-5 when Tsonga sent a forehand long. The third seed appeared in full control when he swept through the third set but when he fell 2-0 down at the start of the fourth he was holding his stomach and had to leave the Rod Laver Arena court. To his credit, Djokovic gamely fought on - he had controversially quit at this stage of the tournament last year due to the severe heat - but although he caused the Frenchman a few concerns, Tsonga was largely in control as he went for his shots, showing no mercy. Tsonga progresses to the semi-finals where he will face top seed Roger Federer.
