Janka strikes gold, Bode disqualified

Carlo Janka claimed the giant-slalom title as Bode Miller saw his hopes of a fourth medal ended by disqualification.

Leading by a slim 0.02 seconds after the first run, Janka extended his advantage to a winning margin of 0.39secs over Norwegian silver medallist Kjetil Jansrud, whose blistering second run lifted him from 11th.

Jansrud's team-mate Aksel Svindal earned bronze and his third medal of the Games after taking gold in the Super-G and silver in the downhill.

Austria's Romed Baumann, second after the first run, slipped out of the reckoning to fifth.

Miller, bidding to become the first male skier to win four medals at the same Games, slipped and missed a gate midway through his first run. His last remaining chance will come in Saturday's slalom.
